Umar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is a registered Engineer (COREN) and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE).

Umar served as Deputy General Manager (Engineering Design) at the Federal Housing Authority, where he led technical appraisals of electrical projects, ensuring best practices at every stage of design and implementation.
